The artwork created for this installation is titled “Snoop Dogg” , as it directly pays homage to the legendary musician; a figure who has transcended from low income middle America to being an icon recognized throughout the world. The work is replicant of those sculptures created within the 14th Century Renaissance , with a focus on figurative detail and bodily expression through form which encapsulate the confidence and swagger projected from the living hip hop legend himself Snoop Dogg. .
Much like Snoop himself, the Snoop Dogg sculpture challenges the viewer by creating a complexity of size and association while addressing the stigmas that exist with the colour black. It asks the viewer to reexamine how they view heroes and icons and what it truly means to break the mold.
